Project Goal

With regard to the emerging field of AgTech, KATANA aims to support the uptake of advanced technologies within the agrifood sector. By bringing together startups, farmers, technologists, venture capitalists and governmental representatives, the project drives forth the emergence of innovative business models and boosts the development of ICT-related products and services in the field. Based on the vision of employing biotech, robotics, soft- and hardware technology to all aspects of agriculture, KATANA addresses the traditional agrifood value chain in order to establish a sustainable, collaboration based ecosystem that supports SMEs and start-ups in accessing knowledge, technology, capital and markets.

A key innovative aspect of KATANA is that it enables the community to choose its most promising members by a Peer-2-Peer selection method, supports these members in co-creation by establishing either cross-border or cross-sectoral collaborations and motivates consortia to rapidly launch minimum viable products (MVPs) which are to attract funding from early adopters through reward crowdfunding. While the best 100 SMEs applicants will be granted 2k EUR funding, the best 10 teams receive 100k EUR additional funding based on their crowdfunding success. Besides, a customized set of support services will be provided to selected KATANA participants who also get the chance to lever financial means in the context of various matchmaking events, an investor forum as well as e-pitches in front of market players, investors and business angels.
